MCP Pylot for Codex

Codex writes code. Pylot writes the post.

Add Pylot to Codex's config.toml and ask for posts from the CLI. Pylot writes them in your brand voice, makes the images and drafts them into your calendar.

Set up in a minute

Connect Codex to Pylot

  1. In Pylot, open Settings → API keys and create a key. It starts with pyl_live_.
  2. Put the key in your shell: export PYLOT_API_KEY=pyl_live_…
  3. Run the command above. It appends a pylot server to ~/.codex/config.toml, and Codex sends PYLOT_API_KEY as the bearer token.
  4. Start Codex and ask for a post.
Terminal
cat >> ~/.codex/config.toml <<'EOF'

[mcp_servers.pylot]
url = "https://www.getpylot.com/api/mcp"
bearer_token_env_var = "PYLOT_API_KEY"
EOF

Try asking

Ask for the post, not just the schedule

Codex asks, Pylot makes it: captions in your brand voice, images in your colours with your logo, then a draft or a scheduled post in your calendar.

“Summarise this release from the git log into an X post and a LinkedIn post, make one brand image for both, and schedule them for Tuesday at 10am.”

  • generate_captions in your voice
  • generate_image your colours
  • create_post draft or scheduled
Prompt 1

Codex sends the request; Pylot writes, designs and drafts. You see the posts in your calendar.

“Create three Instagram posts with images for our hiring push next week and leave them as drafts.”

Prompt 2
  • generate_captions
  • generate_image
  • create_post

“Write a Facebook post about our new API docs with a square brand image, and schedule it for tomorrow at 2pm.”

Prompt 3
  • generate_captions
  • generate_image
  • create_post
create_post

Drafts unless you give a time

Captions are free. Images use 1 credit each, refunded if generation fails.

Questions

Pylot for Codex, answered

How do I add Pylot to Codex?

Add an [mcp_servers.pylot] table to ~/.codex/config.toml with Pylot's MCP URL and bearer_token_env_var set to the variable holding your key. Codex sends it as the Authorization header.

Will the posts sound like my business?

Yes. generate_captions writes in the brand voice Pylot learned from your website, and generate_image applies your colours, logo and style automatically. Your agent asks for the post; Pylot makes it on-brand.

Can Codex publish without asking me?

Not by accident. create_post always makes a draft unless you give it a time, so posts land in your Pylot calendar first. Going live right away needs publish_post with confirm set to true, and that tool is marked destructive so the client can ask you before it runs.

What does it cost?

Captions are free. Each generated image uses 1 credit from your plan and is refunded if generation fails. Drafting, scheduling and publishing are free. The key uses the same plan, limits and credit balance as your dashboard.
